A Message from Bishop DiLorenzo
Welcome to this new initiative in our diocese! Marriage is the center of Catholic family life and the vocation through which most people live out their baptismal commitment.
Healthy family life grounded in God’s plan for marriage between one man and one woman is the backbone of a healthy society. The Church takes this revelation seriously and seeks to provide good pastoral care for families at all stages of life. Every couple preparing for marriage is called to a deeper understanding and lived expression of the sacramental bond they will share as husband and wife. Every married couple is called to be a witness of the joy of Christ in a culture that is forgetting the sacramental importance of marriage. In their openness to life, every husband and wife expresses the Church’s deep reverence and respect for God’s gift of life.
I want to emphasize that life is indeed a gift – from the moment of conception until natural death. It is my hope that this new initiative will highlight the importance of marriage, family, and life. In doing so it is also my hope that all clergy and lay faithful will find helpful resources here to assist them with their pastoral care of others and in their own lives to more fully live out Christ’s baptismal call to “go make disciples” and be a witness among those who do not know Him.
Yours in Christ,
Most Rev. Francis X. DiLorenzo, D.D., S.T.D.
